Zwack Unicum Museum, Budapest
More information
Unicum is a famous liqueur-the national drink of Hungary beside palinka.
It was in 1790 that Doctor Zwack, Royal Physician to the Imperial Court, offered the Habsburg monarch a sip of Unicum as a remedy for indigestion. Legend has it that the Royal comment was: 'Dr. Zwack, das ist ein Unikum!'
Ever since, the Zwack family is dedicated to continue producing this unique liqueur.
We and our tourist group had a great time at this museum with tastings and getting to know more about this legendary drink.
There are 3 types of Unicum at present, for a long time there was only one, the traditional botanical liqueur with a bitter taste, but now there are 2 more flavours for the less hardcore drinkers, the Unicum Plum and Unicum Next.
The museum is open every day between 10.00-17.00 except on Sundays.
